1770. Lieutenant James Cook past by naming The Low Isles.
1873. James venture Mulligan discovered Gold at the Palmer River.
-       George Augustus Frederick Elphinstone Dalrymple named The Daintree River.
1877. Christie Palmerston's Bump Track. Opening the way to the Goldfields.
-       Palmerston also named the Mowbray River.
1878. Banks, Finance and Government
-       The Court House Hotel was built [formally Buchanans]
1880. St Mary's Catholic Church was erected on the hill.
1897. The Mossman Sugar Mill opened.
1903. The Douglas Shire Cowed was created.
1904. The Port Douglas Sugar Wharf was built.
1911. Huge Unnamed Cyclone devastated Port Douglas.
1914. First Motorcar in District.
1933. Captain Cook Highway opened.
1934. Cyclone destroyed buildings on Low Isles
1957. Electricity arrived in Port Douglas.
1958. Last Sugar exported from Sugar Wharf .
1960. Population around 100.
1978. Daintree Tea Plantation established.
1981. The Great Barrier Reef attained World Heritage Status.
1984. Cairns International Airport opened.
1988. The Sheraton Mirage Resort opened.
-       The Wet Tropics inscribed on the World Heritage listing.
1989. St Marys Church restored and moved to Anzac Park.
1989. 3 month long Pilots Strike devastated business.
1993. Port Douglas Court House restored as a museum.
-       The Low Isles Lighthouse became automated.
1999. Cyclone Rhona.
2000. The original Douglas Shire Hall was removed from Town.
2007. Agreement signed acknowledging the traditional ownership
        of the Yalanji people covering 230,000 hectares of land
        from The Daintree to south of Cooktown.
2008. Amalgamation of Councils joined Port Douglas
        with the Cairns City Council, 'De-amalgamation'
        discussions and demonstrations continue to this day.
